This webinar focuses on the importance of morphological instruction to support reading and language development for all students—and specific advantages for English learners (ELs) or dual language learners (DLLs) with language and reading disorders. Speakers Sana Tibi and Peter Bowers share evidence-based tools and strategies SLPs can use in intervention to explicitly teach morphology and explore cross-linguistic influences.

- Describe the benefits of morphological instruction on reading and language skills for bilingual students with speech-language disorders
- Identify cross-linguistic differences between English and additional languages that may impact development of language and literacy skills
- Identify considerations for selecting, developing, and using various activities to assess morphological knowledge of bilingual learners with speech-language disorders
- Incorporate tools for morphological instruction to into intervention sessions and share strategies with caregivers to support bilingual language and literacy development

Presenter Information
Sana Tibi, PhD, has doctorates in Communication Sciences & Disorders and Cognitive Studies of Reading. Currently, Tibi is an Assistant Professor in the School of Communication Science and Disorders at Florida State University. Tibi has more than 20 years of international clinical, research, and higher education teaching experiences; has served on multiple organizations as a literacy expert; and has contributed to developing literacy assessment tools in Arabic. Tibi has done research on literacy in Arabic and cross-linguisticall, and created reading assessment tools with psychometric validity. Tibi’s research findings contribute to the scientific body of knowledge on literacy and serve an important role in our cross-linguistic understanding of the key predictors that contribute to success in reading and the potential factors that cause reading difficulties. Tibi teaches graduate and undergraduate courses and seminars in the areas of communication disorders, language, and literacy
